This example, taken from an ongoing project, is one of a series of experimental card
sculptures inspired by organic forms, particularly, the almost architectural appearance of the autonomy of insects.
It is often assumed that insects enter the world fully equip to defend themselves against danger without parental protection, this maybe because many species appear equip with exoskeletal armour. However, contrary to this assumption, the parents of many insect species, both male and female, care and nurture their young. This is the case throughout the animal kingdom and draws attention to our own specie’s binary expectations of a person’s behaviour based upon their sex and/or gender, and also the very characteristics and qualities we associate.
